Warsaw in Paris is in the middle of its Mobilization Week. After its Opening Ceremony and first workshop, a FlashMob was organized on Sunday 17th. The Climate Limbo, who happened on the so-called "Place de Varsovie", close to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, challenged anyone to manage to go below the 2°C threshold. Check out the video!
Warsaw in Paris organized their very first simulation this week. 20 students from the Institut catholique de Paris became international negotiators for a few hours... They managed to cooperate and reached a global agreement limiting the rise of temperature to +2,8°C before 2100! This simulation is the first one of a long list, detailed in the project busy agenda. Here is the full program of the simulations (in French). Also find below what the team is preparing for the mobilization week, during COP19...:

For this occasion, the REFEDD (French Student Network for Sustainable Development) organized, in partnership with CliMates, a week of awareness-raising events in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, France, during the “Doha in Paris” project. Youth from the capital city had the chance to participate to a FlashMob in Trocadero, a follow-up of the Doha negotiations through a Skype session with youth present in Qatar, a debate about climate warming and an intergenerational conference. In 2013, the Doha in Paris team decided to expand their initiative and imagined the Warsaw in Paris project, a 6-month mobilization, information and training initiative around COP19 in Poland. It will organize workshops about negotiation processes, simulations of the COP in high schools and universities in the Ile-de-France region, as well as send a French youth delegation to the COP19 in November. This project is the starting point that gave birth to the COP in MyCity movement! This month, Warsaw in Paris is literally taking off! After the first micro-simulation let by Warsaw in Paris team members in June 2013 during the National French Student Meeting on Sustainable Development, 3 simulations are planned for the beginning of November. These will dramatically raise the expertise of young people about climate issues and act as a strong lever to mobilize them for the week of mobilization in Paris (15th-22nd of November). These simulations will use the World Climate exercise based on the software provided by Climate Interactive (free of use). For each simulation, the participants will be split in the 6 major delegations (China, EU, USA, other developed countries, less developing countries, other developing countries), will receive country profiles and will have to negotiate an climate agreement. Will they manage to cooperate successfully in order to achieve the +2°C goal? Stay tuned! Follow the Warsaw in Paris on their website: http://copinparis.weebly.com/ Welcome to Warsaw in London! This COP in MyCity initiative is run by the UK Youth Climate Coalition (UKYCC) which aims to inspire, empower, mobilise and unite young people to take positive action on climate change for a cleaner, fairer future. Discover their facebook page here. Why did you choose to join COP in MyCity? "At UKYCC, a key part of sending a youth delegation to the UN climate talks each year is to engage more young people with the decisions being made about the type of world we're going to live in. We have a huge stake in these negotiations, and by joining COP in My City we're looking forward to connecting UK youth with young people around the world to amplify creative, innovative and sustainable solutions to climate change" (UKYCC team). |
