Welcome to our very first Asian COP in MyCity: Warsaw in Kathmandu!
About the Host Organization
The event is hosted by BYND2015 Nepal Hub which is an official hub for the BYND2015 processes affiliated to International Telecommunication Union (ITU) which aims to engage young people in decision and policy making processes and other related activities regarding the Post-2015 Agenda. Besides, it also focuses on capacity-building and awareness programs for young people regarding negotiation processes at grass root level.
About the Project Leader
This project is led by Kabita Gautam, Founder & Coordinator of BYND2015 Nepal Hub-ITU. She is an active, energetic and enthusiastic youth who is passionate about social media and networking and has been empowering and engaging hundreds of youth and children from local to global level for environmental issues. She is also working as a program assistant at The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) since 2012. Her contribution for youth capacity building and empowerment lead her as Founder and Mentor of Nepal Tunza Youth Environment Network (NTYEN) under the guidelines of UNEP and TUNZA in 2013. She has been appointed as Country Director by Youth Climate Report in 2011 for which she has been mobilizing youth to make videos on climate crisis. Similarly, she was nominated as one of the grantees of Youth Action Fund in 2012 for her project “The Environ Vibes: Social Networking on Move” during which she trained around hundred youth to blog. As a Nepalese youth delegate and only a leading female activist for South East Asia, she was nominated as the Social Media Focal Point for UNCSD Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY) as well as the Team Leader for Green Economy Youth Task Force during the preparation process of Rio+20 Conference since 2011.
Why did you choose to join the COP in MyCity community?
I chose to join the COP in MyCity community because most of the time youth who are committed to climate actions and who are active in such activities do not get opportunity to join the COP, no matter wherever it is organized. Especially youth from developing countries are even not aware what is going on and how the world leaders are currently acting in the field of climate negotiations. I have been empowering and engaging many young people from local to global level events by disseminating the information via my networks and social media. Eventhough I was accredited I couldn't join the COP each year due to a lack of financial resources. As an alternative option, this community will provide with me the opportunity to create a vibration and a circle of young people uniting their voice for climate actions.
