Under the lead of Abhay Joshi, CIMC Country Ambassador for India and Founder of (R)Evolution, the COP in MyCity community in India should expand soon! The local team has prepared a beautiful page dedicated to this project on their website.
Check it out here and stay tuned for information on events in India!
The city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, welcomed its very first COP in MyCity event in August. The project is led by Kehkashan Basu, Youth Ambassador of the World Future Council, Global President of Children's Board - Plant-for-the-Planet, Founder President of Green Hope UAE. Here is her account of this day:
"The COPinMyCity Climate Change Awareness Conference held today in Dubai was a huge success -- we had 60 youth participating from 11 different schools across the country.
It was a 5 hour event , we started at 8.30am in the morning and it got over at 1.30pm.
We spread awareness about climate change, its impacts and how we, as youth, should rise to the occasion and work towards mitigating its effects. We had interactive group workshops and each group presented their ideas on mitigating climate change. To raise awareness we conducted a "Climate Quizz" . We also had a flashmob which, too, was a great success.
I had composed a song especially for today's workshop and it was very well appreciated. While concluding the session, all the participants wrote their pledges on the wall.
The passion shown by the participants really made this conference worthwhile."

Warsaw in Kathmandu (Nepal), led by Kabita Gautam with BYND 2015 Nepal Hub association, came up with a Youth Call for Climate Action. Its powerful message is a strong example of what we would love to see all the COP in MyCity initiatives draft, to prepare a clear message for the world youth to be heard in international climate negotiations and especially in COP21 in Paris, 2015.
The city of Bhairahawa organized a COP in MyCity simulation! After Kathmandu and Mahendranagar, it is the third simulation of climate international negotiations to be held in Nepal in the framework of Warsaw in MyCity 2013!
This project was led by Rajendra Mishra, with the support of the CliMate Deepak Raj Joshi.

(R)Evolution, our partner in the city of Hyderabad in India, conducted the COP19 COP in MyCity Simulation Conference (first of its kind in India) at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad which focused on consensus building, negotiations and simulations on the lines of COP 19. They simulated a UN Climate Summit with technical data using C-ROADS by Climate Interactive modelled on the lines of IPCC norms. The project received the support of Prof. Ch Sasikala, HOD, Center for Environment, Institute of Science and Technology.
The simulation lasted nearly 6 hours with two rounds of negotiations and an opening ice-breaking session.
Listen to the feedback of the organizers:
"Finally we're done with the simulation part. It's probably the best part of the whole Cop In My City campaign so far. [...] Everybody had a wonderful session filled with lots of learning and fun. We're looking forward to organize another simulation as soon as possible. [...] We hope that by COP21 we will be able to reach maximum audience about the process and how they can play an active role in the same. Cheers !"
We are all ecxcited to read the final report but in the meantime, check out all the splendid pictures of the event here!
Warsaw in Kuala Lumpur Simulation of COP19 was held at University of Malaya, with a class of Year 4 Chemical Engineering students.
They were assigned to 6 Regions and 2 lobbyist groups.
The simulation consisted of 3 rounds of negotiation, where developed and developing nations did not come to an agreement of efforts in lowering global temperature at or below 2 degree Celsius. International negotiation process in the real scenario is even more complicated.
Re-live the whole simulation in pictures on this page.
On November 16th, 2013, Warsaw in Kathmandu organized two special events.
Simulation: The role play was done by the participants representing one country from each of the parties: Annex I, Annex II and Non-Annex I. There was a separate youth group whose voice was also included in the negotiation process. Some of the youth also acted as the President and Secretary of COP as well as President of Nepal.
World Cafe: Then the participants drafted a "Youth Call for Climate Action" with the group discussion.
The two events received a lot of positive feedbacks and the organizers were asked to re-organize similar mobilization and awareness-raising activities as soon as possible!
The full report is coming soon!
