The city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, welcomed its very first COP in MyCity event in August. The project is led by Kehkashan Basu, Youth Ambassador of the World Future Council, Global President of Children's Board - Plant-for-the-Planet, Founder President of Green Hope UAE. Here is her account of this day:
"The COPinMyCity Climate Change Awareness Conference held today in Dubai was a huge success -- we had 60 youth participating from 11 different schools across the country.
It was a 5 hour event , we started at 8.30am in the morning and it got over at 1.30pm.
We spread awareness about climate change, its impacts and how we, as youth, should rise to the occasion and work towards mitigating its effects. We had interactive group workshops and each group presented their ideas on mitigating climate change. To raise awareness we conducted a "Climate Quizz" . We also had a flashmob which, too, was a great success.
I had composed a song especially for today's workshop and it was very well appreciated. While concluding the session, all the participants wrote their pledges on the wall.
The passion shown by the participants really made this conference worthwhile."
